Hello Kitty - Billions and Billions Hugged

A past newsletter from Terrie Lloyd ("Terrie's Take") mentions a new book about Hello Kitty: "Hello Kitty: The Remarkable Story of Sanrio and the Billion Dollar Feline Phenomenon," by Ken Belson (NYTimes correspondent) and Brian Bremner.

Yuko Shimizu's Hello Kitty is probably the most visible Chanpon figures in history - she was created in Japan, she claims a British heritage, and she's been successful in many parts of the world. Do people even identify her as Japanese?
