Ja-Pandering?

Humor
Japander.com hosts video clips of American stars who have advertised in Japan, from Brat Pitt to Stevie Wonder, with Luc Besson and Harrison Ford thrown in between. Some of the clips are amusing to watch for American audiences, presumedly because most of these folks wouldn't advertise consumer products in the United States. While the content might be funny, the site has a strong derisive tone: "Japander: a western star who uses his or her fame to make large sums of money in a short time by advertising products in Japan that they would probably never use." Somehow it's hypocritical for these stars to shill for Japanese consumer products, as though American stars who advertise in the United States always use what they promote? Either way, many of these clips show funny sides of familiar stars. Quicktime required.

I guess in the age of the internet stars can't rely on national borders to keep their images contained. I remember as a kid I always enjoyed bringing back stories to the US of Paul Newman as "Mr. Blendy" or Sean Connely as "Mr. Ito Ham."
my parents and i were just talking about this!!!! you can't forget sylvester stallone... i think he was also mr. ham too. in those days the ads weren't very creative... i was surprised that some of these actors would do what they were doing... like stallone wearing a white suit carrying a huge tin of ham. but i guess money talks.
思い出してきた。。。 Schwartzenegger doing Yunker was a classic too.
This is really great. I just blogged this on my site. The Suwachan where he wins a Mah-Jong hand against his guests and is scolded by his boss is one of my favorites.
I didn't realize the list of foreign stars would be so long.
My memorables, in recent time (though not on this list) is Leonardo DiCaprio doing his "Orico card, OK!" and ちょっと古めでSteven Segal singing on a bike, "Yakkyoku e ikoo, Arinamin....." sorry forget the rest...
ま、I don't have anything against these folks making lots of money and doing silly things.
I can now forward this URL to friends in the U.S. easier than explaining.

Leo and Meg Ryan have employed lawyers to make sure their dirty little secret of them whoring themselves out on Japanese TV doesn't get back to western eyes. They've gone after Japanderer and any other place on the web that shows their commercials there.
